“The eyes are the windows to the soul.”

“There is a window of time to get the task at hand done.”

Two commonly used phrases that reference the window for something other than that physical part of a house people look in or out of.  Like the “glass half empty; glass half full” analogy, that word has different meanings for different folks at different times.  It all depends.
