Fresh Tartar Sauce

Dill2

I used to buy tartar sauce from the grocery store, but I’ve found that it’s actually a very easy thing to prepare and when you have a “base” recipe you really like, it is easy to change it up depending on your mood. The following is my “base” recipe.

What you will need to make it:

1 cup of mayonnaise (I like to use one that is made using olive oil)

1/3 cup of more of chopped onion (Sometimes I mix this up by using green, red AND sweet onions.  Be creative!)

1 Tablespoons (Be generous; I do!) dill pickle relish or your favorite pickles, rough chopped

1 Teaspoon of Capers

2 Tablespoons of lemon juice

2 or more dashes of red pepper sauce like Tabasco (vinegary heat)

1 Tablespoon of Deli Horseradish sauce (creamy heat)

1 Teaspoon of dill weed (Generosity is good here, too)

1 Teaspoon of Lemon Pepper seasoning (The same rule of generosity applies here)

Salt & pepper to taste

Simply combine all ingredients together in a nice bowl and refrigerate.  It’s simple, it’s tasty and it’s fresh!
